ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box 
A revolutionary automatic litter box that uses disposable
no-mess litter cartridges pre-loaded with Fresh Step brand crystals.
You simply replace the cartridge once a month for each cat.
Task:
The client stated a simple goal: "cartridge-based kitty litter."
There were no pre-existing parameters or ideas. The project
ranged from ideation sketches on how to move, store, and dispose of
kitty waste, to experimental rigs, and on to the industrial design
and engineering of pre-production prototypes.
Result:
Co-invention of an entire new approach to hands-free kitty litter.
The device is actually a frame that sits on top of a disposable
cartridge. A sensor starts the raking cycle 20 minutes after a
cat has left, and solids are tucked under a flap. Other Features:

Literally
‘clean styling’ – all surfaces are smooth and easily
wiped down, and there are no pinch points. |

A purple lid has
magnets on the underside that engage metal tabs on the
cartridge. It lifts during a cycle and pulls up the
cartridge flap with it. |

A quiet worm drive
actuates the rake via lead screws. |

The cartridge is
biodegradable, and made from recycled cardboard. It acts
as delivery container, litter box, and disposal
container, making for an environmentally low-impact
item. |
